Our Doctors

Sidney Nesbitt, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Nesbitt was born in Kenya, attended medical school in Dublin, Ireland, and completed his pediatric residency training in London, UK. He worked for over 20 years in Kenya as a Community Pediatrician. He enjoys working with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and has a special interest in advocacy and working with children with learning, developmental, and behavioural challenges.

Whilst in Kenya, Dr. Nesbitt worked collaboratively to establish pediatric training and treatment initiatives in HIV/AIDS, pediatric endocrinology, pediatric resuscitation and child injury prevention.

Dr. Nesbitt, his wife, and two children enjoy spending time with family and friends.

Duane Bulat, BSc, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Bulat completed his training at the University of Alberta. He practices in both Calgary and Prince Albert since 2002. Through his Community Faculty Teaching Appointment with the University of Saskatchewan, he actively teaches future medical graduates.

Jane Cassie, BMu, MD, FRCPC, FAAP
Dr. Cassie has practiced paediatrics in three Canadian provinces as well as Australia. She has worked in Calgary since 2002, as a hospitalist at ACH until 2009, as a Pediatric preceptor at PLC until 2011 and at Panda Pediatrics since 2007. Her previous community Pediatric experience includes Chilliwack BC for ten years and two years in Perth Australia. Having trained and lived in Quebec, Dr. Cassie has a working knowledge of French. Dr. Cassie has had several decades of experience in helping families with children who have challenges in behaviour or with learning at school as well as having had the opportunity to learn from families with medically complex children.

Douglas Yeung, MD, FAAP, FRCPC
Dr. Yeung was raised in Vancouver and completed his undergraduate and Master’s degrees at the University of British Columbia. He obtained his MD degree from the University of Calgary and went on to complete his paediatric residency at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Dr. Yeung, his wife, and two children enjoy the outdoors and being close to the Rocky Mountains.

Bushra Al-Samarrai, MBChB, FABP, DCH,MPH, FRCPC
Dr.Bushra Al-Samarrai practiced in the Middle East for more than 20 years as a combination of serving as general paediatrician and as paediatric hematologist/oncologist before relocating to Canada years ago. She gained experienced working at Alberta Children's Hospital before joining our clinic as a general paediatrician. Through her experience, Dr.Al-Samarrai has learned how important it is to create a safe environment that is welcoming to all children and families who need it. As a mother of four, she understand that every child is unique with different needs. She enjoys calling Calgary home, and her favourite word is perseverance.

Byron Wong, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Wong is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary. He has been in practice for over 20 years and is on the Medical Staff of the Alberta Children’s Hospital and Foothills Hospital. He is a previous Clinical Teacher of the Year at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and voted Best Children’s Doctor by the readers of Calgary’s Child Magazine.

He studied medicine at the University of Calgary with Postgraduate training at the University of Ottawa, University of Calgary, and McGill University.
Dr. Byron Wong has a special interest in integrative medicine beginning from his early exposure to Chinese Medicine as a child. He holds Certifications in Medical Acupuncture from the University of Alberta and Bravewell Fellow Certification in Integrative Medicine from the University of Arizona.
